We’re getting ready to celebrate the Fourth of July here in the US, which is always a great excuse for a barbecue gathering. Whether you celebrate this holiday or not, I’d like to share some tips on marinating and grilling steak so you can get that restaurant-quality flavor and experience at home.
Dave’s (my partner’s) family members are huge fans of steak, and I’m all too happy to join in and indulge :-) Fleming’s Steakhouse is a group favorite, though at a $400 tab for a steak dinner for five, we were pretty eager to try to recreate the meal in our own backyard.
We got our chance last weekend when we test-drove Dave’s dad’s new Char-Broil grill with some rib eye and filet mignon we picked up (Costco is great for stocking up for a big barbecue, but for special occasions I like to order or gift high-quality, gourmet cuts from Omaha Steaks). Pops made sure we had delicious wine to pair with our main course (check out the 18-year-old Cabernet! You can get 40% off your first purchase at WineTasting.com through this link until October 15, 2015), and we closed out the meal with some decadent homemade desserts courtesy of Dave’s sister Susan.
Now we’re not all grilling masters like James (Dave’s brother), who seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to just how much love and care steaks need to get to tender, juicy perfection. So here’s a handy timing & temperature chart for steak grilling (get your meat thermometer ready!
